"Lulyn cottage, Newlyn"

The gorgeous Lulyn Cottage is full of character and style and tucked away on the Newlyn/Mousehole border. With all the amenities of the beautiful fishing port of Newlyn, incredible sea views and stunning gardens, what’s not to love in this perfect Cornish fisherman's cottage.

Walking through the garden gate you immediately get the sense you’re in a secret hideaway. There are wonderful gardens heading up through various levels and seating areas, to the summerhouse at the top with its breath-taking vistas. Where better to enjoy a morning cup of coffee or evening glass of wine, watching the fishing boats come and go, as the sun moves over the iconic St Michael’s Mount?

Walking in through the stable door of this charming cottage you enter the contemporary living area which is open plan to the kitchen/dining room. It’s a spacious and social space, perfect for cooking up a feast with the local catch of the day, or getting cosy with a good book or movie. The cottage has been beautifully designed with its stylish interiors, Loaf furniture and interesting artwork.

Ideal for couples or small families alike we won’t leave out you’re four-legged friend; doggies are most welcome at Lulyn!

Upstairs the master bedroom with its hotel like king size bed, has French doors out to a very private decked patio area. It’s a very grown-up bedroom where you are sure to sleep soundly. Two further single bedrooms have super sea views across the rooftops through their characterful windows and if bringing children, they get a bedroom each!

If glorious sea views in a tucked away location with all the modern comforts, is what you’re after, then Lulyn Cottage ticks all the boxes for that perfect Cornish holiday….

Among all the pretty touristic towns and villages of West Cornwall, Newlyn feels the most authentic. It remains one of the biggest fishing fleets in the UK and as such gives a unique insight into a proper Cornish fishing port. You can buy fish and seafood straight from the boats, or from one of the many fishmongers. Its streets are quaint and have many old houses crammed down traffic free lanes, but it's the port that gives it its character. Newlyn is fantastic to visit at any time of year, but the August Bank Holiday Fish Festival is not to be missed. As is the New Year’s Eve fireworks at Mousehole.

Despite Newlyn retaining much of its original character the march of time is catching up and it’s becoming quite the destination. This is helped by a number of fabulous eateries including ‘Argoe’, perched by the slipway of Newlyn Harbour it is a relaxed restaurant with a laidback feel as dishes are served when they are ready. ‘The Tolcarne Inn’ with its Michelin starred chef and the amazing independent cinema ‘The Newlyn Filmhouse’. Developed from an old fish merchants store and partly funded by the Curzon group you could be forgiven for thinking you’re in central London with the fantastic bar and gorgeous interiors.

Travelling around, the impossibly quaint village of Mousehole is walking distance. It’s only a mile and a half away and a stunning walk along the coastal road. Alternatively, there is a bus stop by the St Peter’s Hill car park, where you can catch a bus to Mousehole or continue round to the lovely sandy beach of Sennen Cove. Mousehole has a number of highly regarded restaurants and cafés, while Marazion, St Ives, Penzance and Sennen are all well worth visiting and an easy drive away.

Newlyn has a strong artistic heritage. It is loved by artists and famed for its art. The Newlyn School was formed by Stanhope Forbes and Walter Langley who started the British plein air movement (paint outside) and included Henry Scott Tuke as well as others, many of whose works are in the Tate Britain collection.

The comfortable and cosy living area has stunning wood floors flowing across the whole of the downstairs, it’s a wonderful place to relax in, with a three and a two-seater sofa. There’s a SMART flat screen internet TV/DVD and the fitted desk, with its sixties styling, is a good spot to pen a postcard home.

Cooking & Eating

The fully equipped kitchen has everything you need to cook up a feast with a gas hob, electric oven, dishwasher, fridge / freezer and Nespresso coffee machine. The sunny dining area with fabulous Loaf table and fitted bench seats and chairs is perfectly positioned to enjoy your meals, while looking out to sea or into your private garden.

The master bedroom has French doors out to a private decked terrace; a wonderful place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee or breakfast. There is a king size bed with a super comfy pocket sprung mattress dressed in White Company linen. A fitted wardrobe with hanging space and shelves and a make-up area with mirror, ensures you have everything you need to make yourself at home. The two single bedrooms have sea views from their coastal style windows. The larger of the two has a beautiful Loaf wardrobe, with drawers and hanging and the smaller has pretty hangers and drawers under the bed.

The white bathroom suite is great for relaxing in after a day out in the sand and surf with constant hot water. There is a bath with a shower over it. Bath towels will be supplied for you, just remember to bring your own beach towels.

The gardens at Lulyn Cottage are such a feature, with four terraces across various levels, being planted with numerous plants, shrubs and flowers. Outside the front door a small raised patio catches the morning sun. Up to the top past the master bedroom’s terrace, there is a decked terrace with bistro table and chairs for al fresco meals. The other side of this is the wonderful summer house on its own terrace. What a spot to read the papers looking out across the sea and Mount’s Bay.
