CHYGWINS BARN, PRAA SANDS

Chygwins Barn is a beautiful detached two-bedroom luxury barn in an enchanting location close to the sea.

Walking into the gorgeous Chygwins Barn, the quality of the finish and attention to detail makes you feel more like you’ve arrived at a boutique hotel than a holiday home, and we love it! This really is a luxurious property and testament to the owners who have painstakingly refurbished it, not leaving a stone unturned. From the hand built oak and glass stairs to the mezzanine living area, oak flooring and impressive kitchen with its amazing Everhot Range cooker, this cottage feels special.

French doors lead out to the prettiest of gardens where you can sit in peace and quiet with only the sound of birdsong to break the silence.

You will always be cosy with underfloor heating and a wood burner, which even has a pasty warmer on top. The bathroom with its walk-in shower and slipper bath is stunning, and the two bedrooms are the epitome of comfort. After a day exploring, sink back into the top of the range mattresses dressed in White Company linen, and you’re sure to sleep soundly at the lovely Chygwins Barn.

LOCATION

Tresowes is a tiny hamlet located within a World Heritage Site due to its history of mining for tin, copper and china clay as well as its outstanding beauty. The hamlet itself is very quiet and although you will feel lost in idyllic countryside it is only a ten minute or so drive to Penzance and Marazion with its fabulous beach overlooking the famous St. Michael's Mount. Travelling east, Porthleven is a few miles away and fast becoming a go to destination with an attractive harbour and many good restaurants and cafés. Try Amelie’s on the harbour they do a great Sunday lunch with live Jazz and it’s one of my favourites. Praa Sands with a mile of golden sand offers great surfing and a laid-back beach bar from where you can watch the surfers as the sun comes down. Travelling to the wider west Cornwall is simple too with St Ives Mousehole and Sennen all in easy reach. For walkers there are plenty on your doorstep and you are surrounded by stunning countryside, much of which is part of the Godolphin Estate. A trip up Tregoning hill is a must from where you get an amazing vista across the fields to the coast with Mousehole in the distance.

LIVING

Walking through the hand-built porch with its useful bench seats for changing muddy boots, you enter the vaulted open plan living space with most of the rooms off. It’s a bright, flowing space with stunning artwork by Harriet Butler and Rozanne Bell. Hand built oak and glass stairs lead up to the mezzanine living area which dramatically looks down onto the ground floor, and it’s a wonderful place to relax in with a comfy sofa and armchair. For entertainment, there is a large internet ready flat screen TV with a sound bar and an Xbox.

COOKING & EATING

The ground floor dining area is an impressive space and has comfortable seating for four with a bench and three chairs. Perfect for cosy evenings in, there’s a top of the range wood burner, which even has its own pasty warmer. The dining room is semi open plan to the stunning kitchen which overlooks the landscaped gardens and has everything you need to cook up a feast and more.

There is an electric, Everhot Range cooker (like an Aga - it cooks slower but with great results!), together with a microwave, dishwasher, fridge freezer and washing machine. There is a Nespresso coffee maker and the all-important built-in wine cooler too!

SLEEPING

The bedrooms really are luxurious with White Company linen and pocket sprung, Relyon mattresses. Both have wall mounted flat screen TVs, and blackout blinds to help with a good night’s sleep.

One bedroom faces the garden and is a comfortable bright room. There is a zip and link bed that can be make up as twin or king sized, you decide, plus a wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside tables.

The other bedroom faces the side of the barn and has a king size bed, built in wardrobes and bedside tables.

BATHING

The luxury bathroom has underfloor heating, a walk-in shower and slipper bath for soaking away after a day’s activities. Towels and bedding will be supplied for you, just remember to bring your own beach towels.

OUTSIDE

The entrance leads into the gravelled parking area directly outside the barn. Chygwins Barn is totally detached and privately set within its own pretty gardens where in Spring you will see a profusion of flowers and plants as they come into bloom. To the right is a side passage with an outside surf shower and is a great spot for storing surf boards and wetsuits. Most of the gardens are situated to the left of the barn and are bounded by granite Cornish hedging. There is a paved area with a table and chairs for al-fresco dining with the remainder being lawned and it’s a peaceful place to lie out listening to the birdsong.

WHAT GUESTS ARE SAYING...

“We couldn't believe how nice the property was inside and out. Had absolutely everything to a very high spec and standard. It's got an 'Aga' style oven which I'd imagine it really comes into its own during the colder weather! Praa Sands is a fantastic clean beach with lifeguards on duty during the day. The outside shower at the barn was great for the kids before letting them back inside. Thank you for making this stunning property available for hire - we hope to visit again in the future.”

David – August 2023

“Had a fantastic 5 days at Chygwins Barn – glorious weather, loved the beach at Praa Sands. St Ives was a great place to visit, great beaches, great food. As for the barn itself, us and our children adored everything about it, hope to return next year, so much more to explore”

Martin, Donna & family – August 2022

“It has been a beautiful, peaceful place to stay. The barn is very well equipped for all needs. We have had a comfortable, cozy stay. Every evening retiring to the lounge upstairs. This has been a firm favourite place of all of ours. The location is perfect for walks and the beach. The weather has been very kind to us so we were able to have quite a few days swimming. We would love to return one day!”

Louise, Olly, and family – June 2022

“Really great barn, all appointed to a very high standard with top spec TV’s in all rooms and kitted out with John Lewis furniture, crockery and linen throughout. Ideally positioned for great beaches and great walks. The recommendations in the welcome brochure are top notch and the welcome milk coffee and Cornish biscuits are a really nice touch. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back.”

Oliver – May 2022

“We stayed here at Easter with 2 children (5 and 7). It was a perfect base to explore Cornwall and it was a great spot for our family to relax. You are near plenty of great beaches and we got the train to St Ives (from St Erth) We couldn’t have been happier.”
