"Loved our stay at Chygwins barn. A quiet location and yet so close to the beach where we enjoyed a daily evening swim. Perfectly appointed barn with high end fixtures and fittings. The Cornish Way were quick to respond to any questions and it is lovely to book through a true small Cornish agent. We will definitely look to re book through you again. Many thanks for giving us a perfect holiday base!"

"Chygwins Barn, Praa sands"
Chygwins Barn is a beautiful detached two-bedroom luxury barn in an enchanting location close to the sea.
Walking into the gorgeous Chygwins Barn, the quality of the finish and attention to detail makes you feel more like you’ve arrived at a boutique hotel than a holiday home, and we love it! This really is a luxurious property and testament to the owners who have painstakingly refurbished it, not leaving a stone unturned. From the hand built oak and glass stairs to the mezzanine living area, oak flooring and impressive kitchen with its amazing Everhot Range cooker, this cottage feels special.
French doors lead out to the prettiest of gardens where you can sit in peace and quiet with only the sound of birdsong to break the silence.
You will always be cosy with underfloor heating and a wood burner, which even has a pasty warmer on top. The bathroom with its walk-in shower and slipper bath is stunning, and the two bedrooms are the epitome of comfort. After a day exploring, sink back into the top of the range mattresses dressed in White Company linen, and you’re sure to sleep soundly at the lovely Chygwins Barn.
Tresowes is a tiny hamlet located within a World Heritage Site due to its history of mining for tin, copper and china clay as well as its outstanding beauty. The hamlet itself is very quiet and although you will feel lost in idyllic countryside it is only a ten minute or so drive to Penzance and Marazion with its fabulous beach overlooking the famous St. Michael's Mount. Travelling east, Porthleven is a few miles away and fast becoming a go to destination with an attractive harbour and many good restaurants and cafés. Try Amelie’s on the harbour they do a great Sunday lunch with live Jazz and it’s one of my favourites. Praa Sands with a mile of golden sand offers great surfing and a laid-back beach bar from where you can watch the surfers as the sun comes down. Travelling to the wider west Cornwall is simple too with St Ives Mousehole and Sennen all in easy reach. For walkers there are plenty on your doorstep and you are surrounded by stunning countryside, much of which is part of the Godolphin Estate. A trip up Tregoning hill is a must from where you get an amazing vista across the fields to the coast with Mousehole in the distance.
Walking through the hand-built porch with its useful bench seats for changing muddy boots, you enter the vaulted open plan living space with most of the rooms off. It’s a bright, flowing space with stunning artwork by Harriet Butler and Rozanne Bell. Hand built oak and glass stairs lead up to the mezzanine living area which dramatically looks down onto the ground floor, and it’s a wonderful place to relax in with a comfy sofa and armchair. For entertainment, there is a large internet ready flat screen TV with a sound bar and an Xbox.
COOKING & EATING
The ground floor dining area is an impressive space and has comfortable seating for four with a bench and three chairs. Perfect for cosy evenings in, there’s a top of the range wood burner, which even has its own pasty warmer. The dining room is semi open plan to the stunning kitchen which overlooks the landscaped gardens and has everything you need to cook up a feast and more.
There is an electric, Everhot Range cooker (like an Aga - it cooks slower but with great results!), together with a microwave, dishwasher, fridge freezer and washing machine. There is a Nespresso coffee maker and the all-important built-in wine cooler too!
The bedrooms really are luxurious with White Company linen and pocket sprung, Relyon mattresses. Both have wall mounted flat screen TVs, and blackout blinds to help with a good night’s sleep.
One bedroom faces the garden and is a comfortable bright room. There is a zip and link bed that can be make up as twin or king sized, you decide, plus a wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside tables.
The other bedroom faces the side of the barn and has a king size bed, built in wardrobes and bedside tables.
The luxury bathroom has underfloor heating, a walk-in shower and slipper bath for soaking away after a day’s activities. Towels and bedding will be supplied for you, just remember to bring your own beach towels.
The entrance leads into the gravelled parking area directly outside the barn. Chygwins Barn is totally detached and privately set within its own pretty gardens where in Spring you will see a profusion of flowers and plants as they come into bloom. To the right is a side passage with an outside surf shower and is a great spot for storing surf boards and wetsuits. Most of the gardens are situated to the left of the barn and are bounded by granite Cornish hedging. There is a paved area with a table and chairs for al-fresco dining with the remainder being lawned and it’s a peaceful place to lie out listening to the birdsong.
useful to know...
PARKING: There's room to park two cars but drive carefully up the lane if you have a low-slung sports car.
WI-FI: There is unlimited Wi-Fi available. As always this far West distances to the exchange and weather can slow things up and it can occasionally go down. There is reasonable 3/4G on most networks for checking emails if this happens.
HEATING: There is underfloor heating throughout the ground floor and the wonderful wood burner even has a pasty warmer on top!
PETS: Unfortunately, Chygwins Barn does not permit pets. Many of our cottages are pet friendly though and in perfect locations to explore the west with your companion.
LINEN & TOWELS: You'll have bedding & towels but please bring your own beach towels.
ACCESSIBILITY: Chygwins Barn allows you to park right outside and both bedrooms are on the ground floor with only a step up and then over the door frame to get in. It should be suitable for those with limited mobility but always check with us first.
This property is not
wheelchair friendly and may not be suitable for those with limited mobility. If
this applies, please contact our booking office to discuss the properties
potential suitability prior to confirming.
CHANGEOVER & SHORT BREAKS: Changeover is usually Friday. Short breaks are available for a minimum of three or four nights with Friday and Monday changeover days out of season. Just for two discounts available out of season. Do check with us if your dates don't quite fit as we will always try to help.
COOKING with the Everhot Range: At the heart of the kitchen is this fantastic oven, essentially it is like an electric Aga and is always on. Cooking with it is slightly different than a standard oven and takes a little longer but produces wonderful results. It has an Eco setting for during the summer months and provides additional heat for the cooler months.
what guests are saying...
“Really great barn, all appointed to a very high standard with top spec TV’s in all rooms and kitted out with John Lewis furniture, crockery and linen throughout. Ideally positioned for great beaches and great walks. The recommendations in the welcome brochure are top notch and the welcome milk coffee and Cornish biscuits are a really nice touch. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back.”

“We stayed here at Easter with 2 children (5 and 7). It was a perfect base to explore Cornwall and it was a great spot for our family to relax. You are near plenty of great beaches and we got the train to St Ives (from St Erth) We couldn’t have been happier.”
Adam – April 2022
“What a lovely barn, so well designed and fitted out. We’ve really enjoyed our stay. After getting used to the narrow lanes we went all over the place – Minack theatre was a treat and so were the cafes and restaurants e.g., 2 Fore Street restaurant in Mousehole. Favourite beach was Praa Sands, so close by and we watched some amazing surfers. We visited the Tate in St Ives and The Lost Gardens of Heligan – certainly worth a look. Thank you for making the barn so comfortable and well cared for. “
Nick & Jane – October 2021
“We have had a fantastic week away at Chygwins Barn! A beautiful home furnished to a very high standard. The outside shower has definitely been our highlight with lots of refreshing walks. A beautiful location which has allowed us to explore lots of the South of Cornwall. It has been a great stay to allow us to relax and unwind.”
Aaron, Brad, Hollie and Flo – September 2021
"Chygwins Barn is beautifully maintained, and a fantastic retreat to go to after exploring the many conveniently close sights. St.Michael's Mount is only a 15 minute drive away, and Sennen Cove/Lands End is only 30 minutes away also. The property is ideal for a family of four if you have kids of a similar age to us (6 and 9). They absolutely loved the property with it's upstairs lounge area. Even if the weather happens to be unusually bad, then the barn is a haven to relax in.
We will definitely look to return in the future."
