In the most extraordinary location set high above the ocean right on the edge of the South West Coast Path sits the charming Coastguard Cottage and what a hidden gem this is! 

Enjoy first floor views towards Gwennap Head staying off the beaten track at at one of the most sought after locations on this dramatic stretch of coast. This is the perfect property for that memorable family getaway, or if your a couple, or even solo traveller.


The downstairs offers a comfortable living room with French doors which lead out onto the garden, a separate dining room with toasty wood burner and kitchen – plenty of space for everyone! The downstairs bathroom (No W.C) is also handy after a long day of outdoor activities.

Originally one of the terraced Coastguard Cottage’s the property was refurbished to create a wonderful and well-equipped holiday home. Only a few minutes’ walk from the sweet little cove and cafe at Porthgwarra and not far from the lovely beaches of Porth Chapel or Nanjizal it’s perfect for family beach days or winter walks across the stunning coastline to Lands End.

This cottage could be the perfect base for your special family holiday or romantic couple’s escape. 


LOCATION

Porthgwarra is an idyllic spot, away from it all, yet not far from anything. It's a favourite swimming spot, and you'll often see the seal who has been resident for years. The tiny fishing cove has a tidal beach as well as interesting caves and a tunnel. The caves were once used to store shellfish before the weekly market, and the tunnel was cut to allow farmers to access the beach at high tide to harvest seaweed. Today it's a quiet place that's well managed by the St Aubyn Estate and adored by us all. The South West Coast Path runs just behind the cottage garden, offering instant access to some of the most breath-taking coastal walks in Cornwall. It's about a 40-minute walk to the iconic beach at Porthcurno and 30 minutes to the hidden gem of Nanjizal. With the release of The Salt Path film shining a fresh spotlight on this spectacular trail, there’s never been a better time to lace up your boots and experience the magic of the Cornish coast right from your doorstep."

Even when the cove is bustling it's quiet up on the hill where the four Coastguard Cottages are lined up beneath the actual coastguard's watch house.

LIVING

The beauty of a separate kitchen, then dining room, then living room is that everyone can have their own space, while still all being in earshot. The house is tastefully decorated in calming greys hues and the sumptuous sofa and chair in the lounge is sure to cause many of its guests to slip into a dreamy slumber. There are good facilities for children and babies, including a cot and high chair.


COOKING & EATING

The fully equipped kitchen has everything you need to cook up a feast with an electric cooker, fridge / freezer and dishwasher. There is a washing machine in the kitchen.

SLEEPING

Wherever you stay the quality of the bed is vital. No.3 Coastguard offers comfort for a great sleep. With two bedrooms the larger bedroom has a zip and link bed that transforms from twin beds into a super king for the ultimate in luxurious sleeping space. The second bedroom has a double bed. The view from the front bedroom is lovely too - you won't want to get up!


BATHING

There's a bathroom downstairs, (no WC) and one upstairs too. That's great when you come in from a day on the beach and can strip off wetsuits outside and get under the shower in no time. The upstairs bathroom is stylish and beautifully decorated.


OUTSIDE

There’s a sweet little garden with a picnic bench and the French doors open from the living room, bringing the outdoors indoors with the gentle coastal breeze.  Typical of Cornish cottages the garden although private is not fully enclosed with a little used right off way for neighbours access so you may see a neighbour from one of the other cottages venturing out onto their part of the garden- feel free to say Hello! Everyone is super friendly and discreet. 


MORE INFORMATION


  • PARKING: There's a dedicated parking space just past and below the cottage.
  • WI-FI: Wi-Fi is included.
  • HEATING: There are two wood burners in the living area and also in the dining room. The heaters are advanced versions of night storage radiators.
  • LITTLE ONES: There is a travel cot and highchair for your use. Don't forget to bring a mattress and linen for the cot. 
  • PETS: Coastguard Cottage is a dedicated pet-free property.
  • ALLERGIES: If you or any member of the party suffer any kind of allergy (such as dust or food) please let us know before booking so we can advise both the suitability of the property and what feasible measures are possible to mitigate the issue such as adapting any welcome pack contents. 

  • LINEN & TOWELS: You'll have bedding & towels but please bring your own beach towels.
  • UTILITY: There is a washing machine and airier.
  • ACCESSIBILITY: There are typical cottage stairs in the house so it’s probably not suitable for those with limited mobility but always check with us first. Additionally, always check the floorplan in the photo gallery before booking to ensure the layout is suitable to your needs.
  • This property is not wheelchair friendly and may not be suitable for those with limited mobility. If this applies, please contact our booking office to discuss the properties potential suitability prior to confirming.
  • CHANGEOVER & SHORT BREAKS: Changeover is usually Friday. Short breaks are available for a minimum of 3 nights with flexible changeover days out of season. Do check with us if your dates don't quite fit as we will always try to help.
  • PROPERTY IMAGES AND DESCRIPTIONS: From time to time minor upgrades and improvements and changes to furnishings at The property may mean it varies slightly from the images and descriptions on the Website.
  • MAP LOCATION: Although very close the map marker's location is approximate to the property. Do let us know if you need more specific details

  • Part of the charm is you are slightly off the beaten track with limited phone signal. Perfect for nature lovers looking for a rural escape on the coast. 
  • If you are in a car that's your pride and joy and don't like navigating hedgerows and windy Cornish country lanes it may not be for you.
  • Its great to have two bathrooms but be aware the downstairs one does not have a toilet. 
  • If travelling later and arriving in the dark do familiarise yourself with the directions before leaving. With limited phone signal in the area also ensure you download all directions before hand.

The location, literally a stones throw from the coastal path, was just ideal for heading out and about on foot - we managed to walk to Lands End and back, with a couple of hours spent on the beach, in one day, and even headed back to the cliff edge to watch the stunning sunset! The cottage was spotlessly clean throughout, and beautifully decorated with everything we needed for our break. We would wholeheartedly recommend this cottage, and hope to head back again next year."
