"New forge, gwenver"

This spacious and relaxing barn conversion offers you a wonderful rural location to explore the west, minutes from the coastal footpath and walking distance down to the stunning golden sands at Gwenver beach. You'll love coming home to your peaceful and private garden, or light the wood burner to relax and unwind at the end of the day.

Enjoy great country views from the huge bed upstairs listening to the distant sound of the sea. New Forge is away from it all providing comfort and space for a romantic escape, or a family holiday at any time of year.

Built in 2010, the architect's brief for New Forge was to create a quietly luxurious family home where everyone can be together, yet have their own private space. The thoughtfully styled and beautifully furnished open living and dining areas are spacious and homely and the kitchen. It is all about comfort here, throughout the year, with an impressive library of books, reflecting its owners' love of design to inspire the designer in you.

Sleeping four, plus one, the secret third bedroom has proven an instant hit with children and has been christened The Cabin.

Perfectly located in the quiet and secluded hamlet of Tregiffian, a ten minute walk to Gwenver beach, New Forge is private and away from it all, yet places are within easy reach for exploring further afield. With so many attractions in the Far West it is a great place to explore from and return to.

This cottage is just a short walk from the beautiful surfing beach of Gwenver, which is a quieter beach around the corner from popular Sennen Cove. The busy towns of St Ives and Penzance are both a short drive, and some of the best beaches in the country are nearby.

It's designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and makes an amazing location for family holidays or romantic breaks all year round.

The mining areas of Cornwall are UNESCO World Heritage sites and offer an insight into the life of our ancestors.

This countryside inspired such authors as Daphne Dumorier, Rosemund Pilcher and more recently Patrick Gale. The art colonies nearby are famous from such greats as Barbara Helpworth, Stanhope Forbes and even Mark Rothko.

The wonderful open living space at New Forge offers cooking, dining and living in a simply divided 45' long room that's so well proportioned you'll feel a sense of calm as soon as you step through the door. Sumptuous sofas and a fantastic wood burning stove will make the decision to go out in the evening a difficult one! With French windows to allow the sea breeze to drift through in the warmer months it is comfortable all year round with a log burner and underfloor heating to keep you cosy.

The king size bed in the master bedroom is so special that several guests have gone out and bought themselves a similar one after their stay. This bedroom is big! Open up the French windows to the country views, you will definitely linger longer in the mornings. It has an en suite toilet leading through to the third Cabin Room (which is available on request for a fifth guest).

The twin bedroom downstairs is filled with light, has country views and has a TV.

The ground floor bathroom has a large double ended bath and cries out for romantics to pour a glass of something fine and indulge in a luxurious soak. For the mornings enjoy the invigorating walk in shower. Upstairs there is an additional toilet off the main bedroom.

cooking & eating

Bring all your friends and dine around the huge table, perhaps while the fire lover cooks up on the barbecue or the chef gets to work in the well equipped kitchen with induction hob and wok and a combination oven and microwave. Everyone can be together, yet with a feeling of space.

New Forge's garden is enclosed and mostly private with many seating options and a fine barbecue. French windows off the living and dining areas open up to bring the outside in.

The utility cupboard off the entrance hall has a washing machine with dryer.

useful to know...

PARKING: There is a large communal parking area at Tregiffian.

WI-FI: New Forge has free Wi-Fi, you won’t get superfast anywhere this far west, but it’s perfect for surfing the web or checking emails.

HEATING: New Forge has underfloor heating throughout, and of course the more exciting draw is the large wood burner that will have you wishing for a chilly evening. It makes winter stays a joy.

PETS: Far West Cornwall is doggie heaven! There’s plenty of beaches and coast paths for exploring. Two well-behaved dogs are welcome at £35 each per week/short break. Please make sure they stay out of bedrooms and off the furniture and that you rub down muddy/sandy feet before they come in.

LINEN AND TOWELS: You'll have towels and linens provided, just remember your beach towels in summer (or for the Christmas swim!).

ACCESSIBILITY: The road leading to the cottage is quite rutted. You will need to drive very slowly and would not be suitable for low slung vehicles. Parking is right outside the house. The twin bedroom, bathroom and living area are all on the ground floor. There is a small step in through the front door and an internal flight of stairs leading to the upstairs bedrooms and bathroom. If in doubt or if you have any questions do get in touch before booking.

CHANGEOVER & SHORT BREAKS: Changeover is usually Friday. Short breaks are available for a minimum of three nights with flexible changeover days. Do check with us if your dates don't quite fit as we will always try to help.

What guests are saying...

"A wonderful place to stay in a stunning location. The place was really well thought out and catered for all our needs; we were comfortable and very relaxed there. The view from the bedroom over the fields of cows was so peaceful. Waking up there to the sound of birds makes a change from the traffic we usually hear! The nearest beach has to be up there as one of the nicest in the area. The beautiful cove looks amazing, rain or shine. We'd go back and stay here again as we felt there was a lot more exploring to do!"

"Perfect setting to get away and breath in some fresh sea air! We stayed for 10 days and it was a great location to see Cornwall as well as take long walks along the coastal path. The kitchen, BBQ and large living room were perfect for some family meals and games."

Tessa. A - May 2021

"The perfect family getaway. The kitchen was extremely well equipped, which was great as we have a young daughter. The downstairs bedroom was also ideal as a children's bedroom. The garden is completely enclosed and so it was very easy to keep an eye on our daughter whilst she played outside. The house is also located on an extremely picturesque spot and is a 5/10(with kids) walk away from Gwynver Beach. Be sure to go on a sunset walk to the beach. It was absolutely breathtaking!"

Mariko. N - April 2021
