THE SECRET GARDEN, PENZANCE

LOCATION

Located in the heart of this famous harbour town you are in one of the most sought-after enclaves in Penzance. The tucked away but central location is a short stroll from the popular Chapel Street and the high street and is situated perfectly for exploring the best the town and surrounding areas has to offer. The wonderful sub-tropical Morrab Gardens are right on your doorstep and the best local attractions, shops, galleries, bars, pubs and restaurants are all within walking distance. You can be in the oldest pub in Penzance, The Turks Head, dating from 1233, in a matter of minutes. Have a drink or a meal here and you’ll be stepping back in history, enjoying the same public house as pirates and smugglers did 750 years ago. Or walk along the seafront to the famous Jubilee Pool, the UK’s largest Art Deco seawater lido.

Penzance is the gateway to the Land’s End peninsula and in the far west of Cornwall nothing is far away. The fishing harbour of Newlyn is a 20-minute walk along the seafront promenade, and the quaint village of Mousehole is only a 10-minutes' drive away and also a lovely walk. Marazion, with the famous St. Michael’s Mount, is easy to walk or drive to. St. Ives is easily reached using the scenic rail line from Penzance station. Sennen Cove, The Minack Theatre in Porthcurno, and The Cornish Mining World Heritage Site on the north coast, are all an easy drive away too. 

LIVING

You enter into the Victorian tiled hallway with the comfortable living room with a sofa (it’s a sofa bed and can be made up on request), armchair and dining table. It’s a great place to relax after a day’s adventures and there’s a large-screen smart only TV and a selection of books to choose from. The original timber sash window, with wooden shutters, has a window seat, the perfect place to enjoy the view to the pretty garden.

You’re sure to sleep soundly in the king-size bed with a luxury mattress topper and non-allergenic duvet. There’s a chest of drawers as well as a wardrobe providing space for storing your clothes. The vintage dressing table with a chair and desk lamp is the perfect place to pen your postcard home. Relax in bed with a cup of coffee, turn on the wall-mounted smart only TV and enjoy a lazy morning. 

In the living room there is a high-quality, hand-made sofa bed with a 14cm-deep, pocket-sprung mattress, to comfortably accommodate either a third guest or for alternative sleeping arrangements. This can be made up on request.

• PARKING: There is a private parking space situated a few minutes’ walk away - you can pull up close by the apartment to unload (it is a little tight so make sure you are confident and follow the details in our guide on manoeuvring in and driving back round to the parking space).
• WI-FI: There’s free unlimited Wi-Fi at The Secret Garden.
• HEATING: Gas central heating throughout will be comfortably set so you don't need to do anything. There is an additional electric flame-effect stove in the living room. The bathroom is heated by underfloor heating and a heated towel rail.
• TV: There is no aerial but both  TV's are smart so you can log in to all the streaming services such as iPlayer and Netflix.
• LITTLE ONES: There is a travel cot and highchair for your use. Don't forget to bring a mattress and linen for the cot. The owners have also supplied plastic plates, bowls and tumblers, plus small cutlery. 
• PETS: Far West Cornwall is doggie heaven! The outdoor space is secure and there are plenty of beaches and coast paths for exploring. One well-behaved dog is welcome at £35 per week/short break. Please make sure they stay out of the bedroom and off the furniture and that you rub down muddy/sandy feet before they come in. If your four-legged friend can't help themselves there’s a throw provided to protect the furniture and please try to minimise any barking.

• PET ALLERGIES: This is a dog friendly property in a rural location and unlikely to be suitable if you suffer pet allergies.
• OTHER ALLERGIES: If you or any member of the party suffer any kind of allergy (such as dust or food) please let us know before booking so we can advise both the suitability of the property and what feasible measures are possible to mitigate the issue such as adapting any welcome pack contents. 
• PRIVACY: The pretty courtyard garden feels like a private oasis but as you would expect from a terraced property in the town centre, is slightly overlooked. It is also adjacent to the entrance leading to Morrab Gardens, so occasionally you may hear people chattering as they pass although it is generally very quiet in the evenings. There is a door from the top of the hallway stairs to the main house. Don't worry this is always locked and can also be bolted from the apartment if you wish.
• LINEN & TOWELS: You'll have bedding and towels but please bring your own beach towels.
• ACCESSIBILITY: The apartment is across the lower ground floor with a step in. Parking is a few minutes’ walk away. If in doubt or if you have any questions do get in touch before booking.
• CHANGEOVER & SHORT BREAKS: Changeover is usually Friday. Short breaks are available for a minimum of two/three nights out of season. Do check with us if your dates don't quite fit as we will always try to help.
• PROPERTY IMAGES AND DESCRIPTIONS: From time to time minor upgrades and improvements and changes to furnishings at The property may mean it varies slightly from the images and descriptions on the Website.
• MAP LOCATION: Although very close the map marker's location is approximate to the property. Do let us know if you need more specific details.

USEFUL TO KNOW BEFORE BOOKING

Always read the descriptions and more information fully before booking to make sure the property is a right fit for you. We are here to help and can answer most questions as we know the property well.

• The house is built on a slope, meaning that the apartment's entrance hall and lounge are at ground-floor level, while the bedroom and bathroom are on the lower-ground floor.
• If travelling later and arriving in the dark do familiarise yourself with the directions before leaving and ensure you download all directions before hand. Also please ensure you have torch or a mobile phone with a torch for safety and to be able to access the key safe.
