No.3 Coastguard Cottages
This charming cottage set in stunning scenery could be the base for your fantastic family holiday. It's a few minutes walk to the sweet little beach at Porthgwarra, or a longer walk to the lovely beaches of Porth Chapel and Nanjizal (see notes on our beaches page).
The house was completely refurbished to create a wonderful holiday home in 2016. On the ground floor it offers a comfortable lounge with French doors onto the garden, a separate dining room and family kitchen. Also on the ground floor is a handy bathroom that's great for a shower after a day on the beach.
Upstairs there's a family bathroom and two bedrooms with super comfortable beds and lovely views across the cliffs to the sea.
Location Porthgwarra is an idyllic spot, away from it all, yet not far from anything. It's a favourite swimming spot, and you'll often see the seal who has been resident for years. The tiny fishing cove has a tidal beach as well as interesting caves and a tunnel. The caves were once used to store shellfish before the weekly market, and the tunnel was cut to allow farmers to access the beach at high tide to harvest seaweed.
Today it's a quiet place that's well managed by the St Aubyn Estate and adored by us all.
It's great walking country with the dramatic cliffs of Lands End stretching out from above the cottage in one direction, and in the other you come to Porth Chapel Beach, before the dramatic cliff top Minack Theatre and then the stunning beach at Porthcurno.
Even when the cove is bustling it's quiet up on the hill where the four Coastguard Cottages are lined up beneath the actual coastguard's watch house.
Living The beauty of a separate kitchen, then dining room, then living room is that everyone can have their own space, while still all being in earshot. The house is tastefully decorated in calming greys and the sumptuous sofa and chair in the lounge is sure to cause many of its guests to slip into a dreamy slumber. There are good facilities for children and babies, including a cot and high chair.
Sleeping. Wherever you stay the quality of the bed is vital. At No.3 Coastguard all the beds and linens were new in 2016 and offer supreme comfort for a great sleep, ideally with a gentle breeze from an open window.
The large bedroom has a zip and link bed that transforms from twin beds into a superking for the ultimate in luxurious sleeping space. Not only that, the view from the front room is lovely too - you won't want to get up!
Bathing. There's a bathroom downstairs, and one upstairs too. That's great when you come in from a day on the beach and can strip off wetsuits outside and get under the shower in no time. The upstairs bathroom is simple, but beautifully decorated.
Outside. There's a sweet little garden with picnic bench outside, with French doors to it from the lounge.
Parking. There's a dedicated parking space just past the cottage.
