WHERE IT IS

The Piggery, hendra

Experience Breathtaking sea views from this luxury couples retreat near Sennen.

The Hendra Piggery with its gorgeous interiors is set high above this stunning coastline and the views stretch from Cape Cornwall to Lands end. You can even enjoy these from the comfort of bed as you look through to the amazing vaulted window which frames the scene.

Forming a large part of the detached Hendra Farmhouse, the architect designed piggery was skilfully converted to provide a stunning addition which is available at selected times when the main house is closed for guests to enjoy this wonderful space and its grounds in complete privacy. Walking in, the huge hall leads all the way down through to a large living space and past a shower room and kitchenette and onto the bedroom and second sitting area. This is a difficult spot to pull yourself away from with its huge window offering up the most mesmerising of views.

Location

The Piggery at Hendra is located a short drive from Sennen Cove and Gwenver, two of West Cornwall’s finest beaches and from the doorstep there are walks down the spectacular coast path. This area is in so many ways untouched by modern life and the far west is much loved for its untamed raw beauty. The Piggery at Hendra takes in so much of what this magical place has to offer. From the crashing waves of the Atlantic, the dramatic cliffs, stretches of golden sand and some of the best surfing in Cornwall, it’s all on your doorstep for a fantastic holiday.

Living

The impressive hall flows past a side door to the garden to the main sitting room where there are two sofas and a snuggle chair and a woodburner. It’s a special space. Modern and Scandinavian in style there is a large flat screen TV and it’s a great room to catch a movie or curl up in front of a roaring fire with your favourite book. Continuing you pass the kitchenette and shower room to the bedroom and through full width doors which open out onto to another sitting area. Here two low slung armchairs sit facing the large vaulted window and where better to enjoy sundowner and take in the breathtaking views across the Atlantic.

cooking and Eating

There is a kitchenette with a two-ring electric hob, microwave and small fridge and its perfect for throwing together a light meal or breakfast. Although the farmhouse is closed off and empty during bookings at the Piggery the owners are happy for you to use the main kitchen if you want to cook a bigger meal. In there is fridge freezer, dishwasher and microwave plus all the equipment you need to cook up a feast.

Sleeping

The double bedroom with a high-quality pocket sprung mattress is a great spot for lie ins with its fantastic sea views through the sitting area to the sea.

Bathing

There is a modern shower room next to the bedroom and second shower room in the outside utility which is great for after a day’s surfing.

Outside

The lawned gardens are simply stunning and offer breathtaking views along the coastline and out to sea. There is plenty of space to play, soak up the sunshine, and plan the holiday. There is an outside table and chairs for al fresco meals and a perfectly positioned bench for sitting and soaking up the views.

utility room

The large outside utility room has a Miele washing machine and separate dryer. This is where the surf shower room is and its perfect for after a day on the beach although it may get chilly in the colder months!

Essentials

WIFI: Hendra has Wi-Fi in the main house which is linked to the Piggery via an extender. You won’t get super-fast wi-fi anywhere this far west but it’s perfect for surfing the web or checking Facebook and emails. It is fine in the main sitting area but lags as you get to the bedroom making that the perfect spot to get away from the modern world and read a book.

HEATING: Heating and hot water are oil fired and most of the ground floor has underfloor heating.

PARKING: There’s private parking on the drive.

ACCESSIBILITY: The road leading to the farmhouse is owned by the national trust and is very rutted. You will need to drive very slowly and its not suitable for low slung vehicles. Parking is right outside the house, and the accommodation is across the ground floor. There are various levels and steps as well as an old covered well in the garden.

PETS: Hendra Farmhouse is one of our pet free properties.

SHORT BREAKS: 3 or 4 night short breaks are available outside the peak weeks with changeover either Friday or Monday. These are at a 30% discount off the weekly rate. Don’t worry if you need to book dates that don’t quite fit, just call or email and we will do our best to make it work.
