FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here are a few questions we’re asked on a regular basis when people are booking one of our holiday cottages.

If there’s anything you’d like to know, whether it’s covered here and you’d like more detail, or something entirely different, just drop us an email at hello@thecornishway.co.uk or call on 01736 279500

Are you nearby?

Yes, we all live locally and know the area well. Our office is just outside of Penzance and we are available Monday - Saturday between 9.30am and 5.30pm.

If you need us because you have an issue during your stay or to recommend a good café and walk we are here to help.

Changeover day

Currently, the majority of The Cornish Way’s properties changeover on a Friday and a few on Thursday and Saturday. Some of the smaller properties are very flexible and you can arrive on most days. We lived away from Cornwall for many years and experience has taught us that timing a trip to the far west can be hard so do call and we will always try to make it w

Deposits & Payments

To confirm a booking 25% is taken (via payment links - telephone payments are not possible).

The final balance (including a cautionary damage deposit) is due six weeks before your arrival and you will receive a reminder email shortly before this.

If your booking is a little later and you are within the six weeks the full balance is paid to confirm the booking.

- is there a damage deposit?

All new guests are charged a cautionary damage deposit. This varies depending on the size of the property and ranges from £100 to £500. Subject to the booking conditions we return this shortly after your stay providing the housekeeper confirms the house has been looked after and left in good order. If additional cleaning is required, the cost will be deducted at £20 per hour from the security deposit.

- what is included in the price?

Prices are generally based on seven night's stay, Friday to Friday or Saturday to Saturday. Power, heating and linens are included. Outside the summer the cottages with wood burners will leave you at minimum a starter set of logs to keep you going for the first night or two and there will be instructions about where to go locally to replenish them during your stay. There are no additional taxes.

- linen & towels

All bedding and towels are included - one bath towel and hand towel per person plus hand towels in bathrooms/WC. Please bring your own beach towels and towels for dogs as required.

- what do we need to bring?

In the property you will have basics such as washing-up liquid, tea towels, a dish cloth and some loo roll. Sometimes there are other provisions left by previous guests or owners such as oil, salt & pepper etc. We can’t confirm these will be there though. It's worth bringing supplies just in case. This is self-catering holiday and you will need to bring your own provisions.

Arrival & departure times

These vary between properties due to size and allow our housekeepers to get properties ready for your arrival. Bookings are by the night, please do not feel that a day is lost as the changeover time is required to ensure places are ready for you.

ARRIVAL - Between 4-6pm

DEPARTURE - 10am

- can we arrive early

We are in touch with our housekeepers throughout the day and we always endeavour to contact our guests if it is possible to check in earlier.

Guests will often travel to the local area earlier and we have some lovely recommendations of places to visit if you do.

- can we arrive late?

You can arrive at any time after 4pm in most places. Some are 5pm and large houses from 6pm. We’ll make arrangements with you if you’d like to arrive late in the evening so do let us know if it's likely to be after 10pm.

Wi-Fi

Most properties have Wi-Fi. Always ask us if a good connection is imperative as we can advise you. Due to the remote nature of many of The Cornish Way properties connections can occasionally be sporadic. The distances to the local exchanges can reduce speeds down to basic web surfing making streaming in some of the cottages a challenge. Lines sometimes go down particularly in stormy weather, but we will always work hard to arrange repairs and luckily, we rarely have too many issues.

- mobile signal

None of the properties are in urban centres, but mobile coverage is generally good on most networks but at times can be patchy.

Working holidays

Please see our properties offering a designated desk space here.

Short breaks

Please see our short breaks page. Short breaks pricing is not calculated pro-rata.

Little ones

We can get a high chair to all cottages (dependent on availability). Many have them already and this is listed under the 'Need to know' information on the property page. Mattresses and linen are not provided with the cots. Some places have a fixed stairgate - this is mentioned don the property page too. We do not supply these and can recommend companies that do as required.

Dogs?

Dogs are welcome at most of our cottages at £35 each per week. Read more about dog friendly holidays here.

- can we have our pet looked after?

Just ask, for a small charge we can often offer dog sitting and walking, or just dropping in to visit a pet while you make a day trip to somewhere further afield like The Scilly Isles or The Eden Project.

Can we book several cottages for a family get together?

At Tregiffian Veor a small hamlet above Gwenver and Sennen we have a handful of cottages close by and we often host family groups in two or more cottages there. You’ll need to plan in advance as the cottages do book early. However we will not entertain parties such as stag and hen parties and will cancel a booking if we believe this is the purpose. This is to respect both our wonderful properties and our neighbours.

Is there a cottage suitable for the elderly and less mobile?

New Forge is popular with guests bringing an elderly relative. There’s a bedroom on the ground floor as well as the family bathroom with walk in shower. Always ask and we will advise any cottages suitability for the less mobile or young children.

Can we get our shopping delivered?

We highly recommend The Cornish Food Box for local groceries delivered to your cottage, they take website and telephone orders. On booking we provide a local guide to help you shop locally. Both Tesco and Sainsbury's deliver to all cottages at The Cornish Way.

Electric vehicle charging points

A number of our cottages have dedicated EV charging points. When staying at any of the cottages only ever use a dedicated EV charger if supplied. For safety PLEASE DO NOT charge vehicles using the household supply or a 3 pin plug. There are fast charging points at Sainsbury's in Penzance, Land's End Visitor Centre, Minack Theatre and Asda in Hayle. Up to date information on charging points and planning charging during your journey can be found online on sites such as https://www.zap-map.com/live/
